a strange confluence of sound that sounds part krautrock synth label brain records, part hyperdub. techno haze and synth wormholes with spectacular sound design that has banged at berghain and soundtracked winter night drives. greenspan is known mainly for his work with junior boys and jessy lanza and taraval is a longtime touring member of caribou, but both have released several 12� and eps of electronic exploration over the past few years. inspired by synthesizer minimalists like jd emmanuel, cluster and john carpenter, the two attempted to create a type of dance music with hardware that was indebted to their influences but did not feel intrinsically retrogressive. the idea was to make a type of raw synthesizer and drum machine music that could be listened to beside the hypermodern techno of pearson sound or actress. the cover art is a tribute to a mysterious mural that looms over the hamilton ontario area where the album was recorded. each of the five tracks on the ep were edited down from much longer recording jams which were done with hardware sequencers in real time. the recording was done completely off the floor with no overdubs or added material after the fact.

weiss blasts off via �brain fever�, where raw, mind-altering arpeggio bass, fuzzy drum machine hits, spacey chords and alien electronics thrust our hero skywards. think of it as techno for funk-fuelled, italo-disco loving astronauts whose journey to the end of the universe is only just underway. this intergalactic funk blueprint is explored further on the deeper and more melodious �you want a cigarette�, where weiss�s vocoder vocals wrap themselves around mutant tb-303 lines, rush-inducing chords and clattering machine percussion. on �space ghetto (booty)�, our hero celebrates the discovery of previously unknown worlds in the only way he knows how. with kaleidoscopic, full-throttle electronic motifs and funk-fuelled synth-bass to the fore, weiss offers his own unique take on electrofunk. pleasingly fuzzy and tightly wrapped in the syncopated drum machine handclaps of ghetto-house, it�s a typically far-sighted and attractive proposition.

hamid s h+ (hpls) label continues to plough a furrow into the freakiest corners of the minimal scene, keeping the spirit of labels like telegraph and minibar alive with off-kilter beats, freaky sampling and wayward synth work from lesser known operators. g76 is up on the a side with the wonky wonders of -father-, packing some seriously squelchy monosynth bass and plenty of beat trickery to wriggle under the skin of the most deviant dancers. h+dk (hamid and denis kaznacheev) tackle the b-side with -tachtagol connection-, keeping the drums as slender as possible and using a sweet but subtle pad as the focus of the track. it s a simple approach, but utterly effective.

harrison bdp steps up for the inaugural release from artesian sounds kicking things off with one of harrison�s most anticipated tracks to date. �it�s foggy outside� has been rescued from the confines of the world wide web remastered and revamped to finally get its first taste of wax. foggy had everyone grooving from the get go and now will hit harder and deeper every time.
the flip sees harrison showing off his knack for the garage shuffle and straight-up, no fuss, late night bangers. roberto s wraps things up providing his own playful rendition of the a-side track, building on those blissful chords with crystal clear arps and a bounding rhythm. a perfect summer�s day encapsulated...

the second remix ep from maps of hyperspace�s �superspace� cd sees the ambient dynamics of �a sense of unity� emphasised in the versions rendered by off land and arjen schat. elwood throws in his reinterpretation with a superb minimal deep techno take. adriano wraps the excursion with a smooth dancefloor remodel of mikael�s unreleased �sky�.

with spring well and truly in the air and party season in step, mosaic records boss steve o sullivan launches mosaic s 38th release - joining forces with fellow londoner frazer campbell for a new studio collaboration. not content with letting the dust settle from his recent work alongside ricardo villalobos, o sullivan has stayed a little closer to his london home to work with frazer campbell for this latest tag team effort. a dextrous hand in the mix and producer in his own right, campbell has a passion for all things that sit on the deeper end of the house, techno and electronica spectrum. in his own words, thought emoting music is central to his mission having launched open recordings and elliot project records last year: a worthy sparring partner indeed. since the start of the year, the pair had their heads down focusing on finding a happy medium between deeply swung grooves and the airy influences of detroit - shaking out an interesting trio of tracks for their label debut. far from treading the obvious path, the main event a1 hypnotonic revels in a lighter touch as metronomic beat programming cycles endlessly to a held set of notes. off-kilter bass pulses, warped out vocals and effect splashes all intersect to keep the energy input constant as they capture one of those less frenzied moments where the very notion of time seems to hold still. make no mistake, this is a slow burn vibe. head to the flipside b1 soultonic to plunge yourself straight into hip twitching mode when the lights go down. a deep chord, syncopated hats and deftly tweaked synths echo as a full dose of shuffle inflicts its move. simple yet so effective, this track will not let you down. winding things back up a touch, the tougher edge of alleyway funk pushes the feeling on thanks to a thumping kick and a deft nod towards uk garage. met with a soft glisten of a rhodes piano and tweakish melody, the pair round things off in a boyant mood - fans of soul capsule and schatrax will no doubt agree. repeat play of this ep is recommended as its all the more rewarding for it.

topping off another slow year at assistance hq, mr assister channels some slightly darker shades for the second release on beam, aimed squarely in the vague direction of the dance floor. in masonic forest , a rabble of delirious bongos get blown off course, trudging endlessly through the tangled grounds of the grand lodge. down below on jordan , drums pound incessantly and chants echo from the murky distance, valiant but ultimately inert on their futile march to nowhere.

a few years ago, melodies family members floating points and dj red greg got their hands on a couple of original 70s obscurities. while these standout records shone brightly in their own right, the two djs saw the potential to create their own edits behind the scenes, finely attuning the original versions to modern-day dancefloor standards. of these new recordings, they cut only five copies for themselves and a few dj friends of theirs. today, melodies international is very proud to bring you mel006 and mel007. fully licensed, lovingly mastered to the highest possible standards and carefully edited to dial up that dancefloor enjoyment, these two æyouÆre a melodyÆ classics werenÆt originally meant to get official releases. but due to popular request, they are now available to play and share in very special moments at parties around the world. mel6 arrives as a 7-inch, with the original version and the edit on the flip. first released in 1979 as a three-minute up-tempo library recording, ôdisco baby-, one of 10 tracks off a record available to license for film, radio, television and other media, held some hidden magic that would only get uncovered almost four decades later. informed by years of combined dancefloor experience, floating points and red greg have slightly tweaked the original material, realising that played in the right context, it can become a true disco anthem.

it s now time for one of resopal s current crop of exciting young producer teams to get a step up: the two producers debut on the label with a 12- ep entitled fresh trax. this is a versatile ep with three different tracks in the fields of house that have great range, and more than enough skill to pull off many different tricks.

new york collective sheik �n� beik continue to expand an impressively developing catalogue adding to releases from xamiga, keita saino and jeffrey scott with a fresh 12� from voodoo down records owner and fellow brooklynite n conduit. having utilised voodoo down as a platform for his own brand of rich, emotive house music n conduit now dims the lights a tad in offering up 3 neatly reduced techno tracks that meld dystopian drones with disquieting melodies and tough, swung drums. �echo must die� kicks things off with looming pads and glistening synth tones. a bold, punchy kick drives a purposeful march forwards whilst mangled computer fx pepper the high-end.

weÆre now halfway through the treisar series and moscoman shows no sign of slowing down. next up is donkey jumps ahead. the sixth chapter kicks off with big jack arbon, an unambiguous summer anthem tied up by digital steel drums and pitched chants. on the flip, things forgot to be this way calls for the never-ending daze of the afterhours with disco infused melodies and distant vocals floating atop doped down beats. closing track unheard melody sets a different pace. wistful mediterranean guitars pick unhurried melodies while delays cloud the track in just the right amount of sleaze.

following the excellent single-sided heater from sharif laffrey, discos capablanca is back in action once again with odopt, previously only spotted on excellent swedish label born free. the record opens up with the ominous, dramatic tones of -belgrade-, all searing synth swells and bloated drums working towards some cinematic apocalypse scenario. on the b-side, -croque trans croque- has a cooler head but instead aims to unsettle with its off-key metal chimes atop a steady-ticking disco rhythm, and then -rex ingram- finishes the ep off with yet more surreal beatdowns that will send the party in a very interesting direction indeed.

john shima has been quietly plying his trade in techno soul since 2010, shoring up on labels such as boe recordings, contrast-wax and firescope. now he inaugurates distant worlds with another fine clutch of introspective beats delivered with a classic early 90s feel. it s hard to ignore the influence of b12 on -renegade-, while -machine works- takes on a moodier tone without losing that inherent warmth that makes his music such a pleasure to listen to. -veloc- reaches for a heavy-lidded euphoria, and then -troglodytic- makes for the consummate b2 track by heading out into ambient pastures, showing off shima s synth skills in fine style.

after the success of 2016 s open water , udmo returns with three meticulous compositions based on themes of industry and space. the tightly woven, grooving ethereal sounds that we have come to associate with this young artist are even more developed with his second release. label heads albrecht la brooy contribute with a deeply hypnotic friday arvo knock-off remix suited to the early hours.

ltd repress !! this special one off collaboration sees young gun native berliner prodigy max graef, coupled with globe trotter fantastic man aka mic newman. with mic living in max s broom cupboard for a few vodka soaked weeks in berlin this autumn, there was a beautiful inevitability that some music would outcome. the lead track -soothe me- is no noodly shrinking violet, but a grade 10-cross-genre-dance-floor-destroyer which andy snapped up for label on first listen. clearly taking it s inspiration from the rhodes and sample drenched sound signature detroit label and adding in live instrumentation, tape effects, for a track rich in steely dan sensibility, coupled with a sub bass and twisted lead line dragging us into a new year. the b-side relaxin at the flip is a raw slab of analogue goodness, flying 606 high hats, a tough kick drum and simple elements driving the track forwards, best heard 8am in a dark corner of a club.

bomb after bomb! a new my rules records original coming straight from label boss justin van der volgen. fresh off the back of his latest ep which featured peak-time versions of shit robot s lose control and felix dickinson s burning flame , this one sees him on a whole other but no less floor-filling trip. coming in regular and dub mixes, no vacancy sounds like a lost brooklyn dub-soca-reggae-house classic. the a side charges with warped machine percussion, chanting vocals, a militant rhythm section and a seriously heavy bass line. flip to the b side and check justin s impressive dub skills. stripping the track back, he maintains complete propulsive energy, all the while adding plenty of psychedelic twists sure to melt minds. expect to hear your favourite leftfield, deep-digging, big room selector dj ripping the dance all year with this.

after kicking things off with sean thomas� (cop envy) the weigh, sydney�s outer time inner space return with a collaborative ep from jon watts, the kind-hearted, go-to sound engineer of the sydney club and experimental music scene and otis label owner, hugh burridge (aka hubert clarke jr). as resident djs for otis� sweet echoes parties and guests for some of sydney�s more open-minded club promoters, jon & hugh have developed their own style of warm up set, largely unrestrained by genre. another view is just an extension of this open approach to club music. there�s an obvious ode to bukem�s good looking records, a lopsided mpc jam that could have been written by a drunk ron trent, a club roller with uk broken beat at it�s heart and a spaced out, dream-scape dub from melbourne mate, rings around saturn (dan white) to round out the ep. the common thread, they�re keeping it deep.

folding citys debut on through these eyes is charged with exerting drum rhythms and high-energy movement throughout. the a-side enthralls with psychedelic string plucks and silky smooth, even trance-inducing arrangement. livid percussive movements, powdered with delays and tribal grooves, are creatively used - as well as haunting, emotive pads. �museling� is a different beast to witness, starting off with hypnotic arpeggios and taunting, grimy vocals, anticipating the impact. swift hi-hats race along an intensely stomping bass-line, pervaded with gritty but fluid motion - resulting in extraordinarily energetic music. the two-sided single elegantly shares the same signature sound, each track complementing the other.

the first clouded vision recordings release of 2017 comes from label owner matt walsh teaming up with stratowerx aka sam russo. the ep is completed with a remix from one of matt�s long-term studio partners, scott fraser, who makes a long awaited debut on the label. the three tracks were recorded over the course of 2016, with the two producers sending parts back and forth via email and the result sees a clear middle ground of minimalistic analogue electro and techno. scott�s surface pressure remix turns the first track �no function� into a dark drexciyan electro brooder, rounding off the ep very nicely indeed.

following �conningham ep� reach return with another uncompromising 12� from duo thread. dropping it�s predecessors unashamedly raw bashfulness, �goldhawk ep� is a subtler, deeper affair yet it still maintains its bass heavy, electro leaning edge.
the first track �ellerslie� ets the tone for the ep, a trip through the cosmos, with shimmering synth lines taking you on a journey through the galaxy. subtle variations float effortlessly on the driving rhythm patterns, the bassline only a distant presence. the 2nd cut �sycamore� is another journey into the deep, a slightly more housey affair, a motorik drum patterns carrying an eerie, deep atmosphere that is punctuated by melodic patterns appearing unexpectedly.
on the flip �the grove� instantly works up a sweat - claps, dark synth riffs and a relentless drum pattern. ferocious, in your face dance floor work out. rounding-off the ep in style �goldhawk� is the sparsest of the tracks on offer. built on bare bones frame, there�s melodic flourishes, subtle production trickery, galloping along a 2 step-ish percussion pattern. thread further cementing their eclectic production style with this strong ep.

fresh from charming the pants off us with the verdant echoes from the southern place 12-, italian producer piero paolinelli is back as sofa talk with a new single striding out on the ever fantastic tusk wax. this 12- comes steeped in different shades of party music, from the bouncy organ chords and motor city leads of -disquiet- through to the slickly diced up boogie tones of -elastic-. as well as paolinelli s mighty fine originals, the remixes come from some big hitters. ad bourke gets on board to turn -disquiet- into a energised, bubbling house burner while posthuman brings some of his trademark tough acid touches to elastic-.

next up on etruria beat, is the dutch duo hush & sleep who have been steadily making name for themselves in the past year. they deliver a stunning two tracks ep with farrago and marco effe on remix duty. the ep starts off on a joyous note with the track mirth. as this is an old english word for gladness, the main melody takes you on a carefree ride supported by a stomping kick and dreamy pads in the back. farrago takes a more stripped down approach with his version. he builds on the dreamy pad, making it serve as a warm blanket over his signature tight percussion. contradicting mirth, the second original slowly starts to drag you into a feeling of hysteria, hence the name. taking their signature kick as the foundation, hush & sleep use a haunting melody that lingers on in the back and sets an eerie mood. marco effe�s remix is a deep stunning techno groover. taking the main melody but twisting it into his own wonderful creation and sending you off on a journey into time and space.

as summer peaks, we bring you the brand new series watergate remixes where standout tracks from our discography are remixed and retouched by some of our favorite artists. kicking off the first installment we have matthias meyer and jimi jules stepping up to deliver their twist on two big tunes from heavy-hitters butch and henrik schwarz. first up is matthias remix of butchs cosmic tale shahrzad, and he dishes out a truly timeless piece of dance floor euphoria. with his trademark organic groove and lush swirling pads meyer guides us through a heavenly journey into the distant reaches of sonic elation. on the flip side, jimi jules brings his a-game with a revision of henrik schwarz classic words in return by demonstrating an incredibly mature restraint of precise and calculated efforts resulting in an enchanting trip of dreamy aural pleasures.

latest in the run of downright deviant activities from the contort yourself camp is this new collection of old and new industrial tinged bangers, leading in with the excellent noirish heat of eindkrak s slow-stepping -shawarma-. andromeda complex s mid-90s rhythm-fest sits in stark, functional contrast before gdl s own contemporary rhythm science sends the record spinning in a reverie of surprisingly light-footed percussion. circling vultures are too enjoying the mean tempered intensity of focused drum machine programming before klankman rounds the record off with a slightly squelchy remix of andromeda complex s -the servant-.

previously spotted on udacha and sharing an excellent lp with a.e.m., dices has already demonstrated a knack for wonderfully delicate ambient compositions and off-kilter 4/4, and the goods just keep on coming via this stunning 12- for rough house rosie offshoot pandora. -part 1- is a wonderful opening gambit powered by lightly pattering percussion, while -part 7- enlists the help of nick ossia to float off into the swirliest of liquid synth baths. ossia is also on hand to help with the more abstract sonic shapes of -part 5-, while -part 3- provides a wonderfully energised, drum-rich ending to a truly standout ep.

after a string of releases on melting pot music, plane jane and yoruba soul vocalist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist miles bonny returns to the bastard jazz family for a special one off 7inch paying homage to the purple one, covering prince s dear mr. man, a track that couldnt be more timely considering the state of the world. miister man goes for the jugular with a low slung drum break, a deep synth bassline, miles signature understated funky vocal growls and horn injections. the instrumental is included on the flip.

cues002 continues the series with two dense tracks that fearlessly steer through deep waves of sound, continually rising and falling in timbre and intensity. with its furious drum arrangement gaining momentum, cues002 a takes an unexpected turn as a dazzling pad sound emerges and sets off an unsettling euphoria. grounded by a pounding kick drum, cues002 b meanders through a disembodied soundscape, allowing only a washed out ride cymbal to add a sense of familiarity.
